Gorakhgad Trek Guide

By Wild Rangers · 17 July 2026

Gorakhgad is a quiet, lesser-done fort near Murbad, known for its **spectacularly deep rock-cut caves** and a short but thrilling cliff-edge traverse. It is less crowded than the famous forts, which makes it a gem for trekkers who want solitude. Here is the Gorakhgad trek guide.

The route and the caves

From the Dehari/Murbad base the trail climbs through forest to a saddle between **Gorakhgad** and **Machindragad**. The highlight is the cave complex — one chamber is unusually deep, and local lore says it connects underground. The guided Gorakhgad Trek runs transport from Mumbai and a guide who knows the safe viewing points.

Trek difficulty

Graded **moderate**. The walk up is about 1.5–2 hours; the final ridge to the Gorakhgad temple has a narrow, exposed section — hold on and avoid it in wet/ windy conditions. Not for first-timers without a guide.

Best time

October–March for clear, dry trails. Monsoon is green but the ridge is slippery; go only with an experienced group.
