FAQs
Where is Vikatgad (Peb Fort) located?
In the Matheran hill range of Raigad district, Maharashtra, about 2,100 ft above sea level. The nearest railhead is Neral; base villages are Fanaswadi and Anandwadi.
How difficult is the Vikatgad / Peb Fort trek?
Moderate. The toy-train-track route is easy to the 155 NM diversion, then a 1–1.5 hour climb with rocky patches and iron ladders. Fit beginners can do it; the ladder sections are trickier in monsoon.
What is the best time for Peb Fort trek?
June to February. Monsoon brings greenery and waterfalls; winter gives clear views. Avoid the height of heavy rain on the ladders without caution.
How do I reach Peb Fort from Mumbai?
Local train to Neral (1.5–2 hrs), then a shared auto to the 134 NM toy-train marker. Walk the track ~40 min to the 155 NM diversion and climb to the fort.
Is there a cave on Peb Fort?
Yes — the summit has ancient meditation caves looked after by Swami Samarth disciples, plus a Pebi Devi temple and a small Hanuman temple. A torch helps explore the square-mouthed cave shrines.
