Alibaug Beach Camping
Overview
Alibaug is Mumbai's default coastal escape for a reason, and this version skips the resort entirely in favour of a proper beach campsite — a tent pitched right on the sand, the tide rolling in and out through the night, and the old Kolaba fort sitting just offshore like something off a postcard. It's camping with a side of history and, if you time it right, a genuine seafood feast to close out the day.
There's no trekking involved at all: it's a short drive from Mumbai (or a quick ferry hop across the harbour) straight to the campsite, which leaves the whole day free for the beach itself — a walk out to Kolaba fort across the exposed sand at low tide, a lazy afternoon by the water, and a proper Konkan seafood dinner as the sun goes down. Wild Rangers runs it as an overnight with the camp set up right on the beach, so the evening ends with a bonfire and a full night's sleep to the sound of the waves.
October through April is the ideal window — dry, cool, and calm seas — while the peak monsoon gets skipped altogether, since the Konkan turns properly humid and the sea too rough for the low-tide fort walk to be comfortable or safe. Outside that narrow risk window, though, this is about as easy and forgiving a trip as Wild Rangers runs: no fitness requirement, no technical anything, genuinely suitable for first-time campers, young families and anyone who just wants sand between their toes without any of the planning a longer trip usually demands.
At around 100 km from Mumbai by road (or that quick ferry crossing), it runs as a two-day batch with transport, camping, meals, a guide and the low-tide fort walk all included — seafood and extras beyond the included meals are on you, which most people are more than happy to spend on once they're there. It pairs naturally with a stop at Kashid or Revdanda if you want to stretch the coastal theme a little further. If the goal is the fastest possible route from city noise to sand and a tent, Alibaug is the closest yes Wild Rangers has to offer.
One detail worth planning around: the walk out to Kolaba fort only works at low tide, so Wild Rangers times the visit to the day's tide table rather than a fixed clock hour, which occasionally means an early-morning or early-evening walk depending on the weekend. Sand shoes or old sandals are worth bringing since the fort approach crosses wet sand and shallow water rather than a dry path.
Based in Raigad District, this easy 2-day trek is best attempted during October, November, December, January, February, March, April — when the trail and surroundings are at their most rewarding.
